This is an antique institutional ironstone serving bowl marked “M. E. Church” (Methodist Episcopal Church) and produced by Rockville China Co. in the early 1900s. These heavy-duty ironstone bowls were made for churches, hotels, and restaurants, and are now desirable to collectors of restaurant ware, church memorabilia, and early American ironstone.
The bowl features a simple classic design with a blue line rim and stamped lettering. It shows prominent age-related crazing, giving it a wonderful primitive patina that many collectors value.
